Faringdon Folly Tower
Local highlightLord Berners raised this brick tower on a wooded hilltop above Faringdon in 1935, the last great folly built in England, telling his architect that its whole point was that it should be entirely useless. Gerald Wellesley built the base in classical style before Berners capped it with a Gothic top on his return. The wood is open daily; the tower itself opens on a handful of days through the year.
