Cwm Idwal is a glacial bowl cradling Llyn Idwal beneath the cliffs of the Glyderau, a national nature reserve long prized by geologists and botanists — Darwin walked and puzzled over it. Above the lake the dark cleft of Twll Du, the Devil’s Kitchen, splits the headwall. An easy path loops the lake from the car park at Ogwen; the ground beyond is serious mountain terrain.
