The National Slate Museum occupies the Victorian workshops of the huge Dinorwig quarry at Llanberis, preserved much as the quarrymen left them when work ended in 1969 — foundry, forge and machine shops still in place. It closed in late 2024 for a major redevelopment and was due to reopen in 2026, so check before you travel. Entry is normally free.
