Llanberis runs between Llyn Padarn and the foot of Yr Wyddfa, a former slate village turned mountain hub. The Snowdon Mountain Railway climbs from here to the summit, and the vast Dinorwig quarry across the lake now holds the National Slate Museum. The Llanberis Pass climbs south into the heart of the range.
