A tiny, dark-panelled old pub on Durham’s Saddler Street, the Shakespeare Tavern is all snugs and low beams, with a long-standing reputation as one of the city’s most haunted spots. It’s a characterful place for a pint a few minutes from the cathedral and castle. Durham station is about ten minutes’ walk to the north-west.
