Crook Hall Gardens wrap around a medieval hall on the northern edge of Durham — reputedly the only surviving open hall in the county. The gardens run as a series of intimate spaces, a Georgian walled garden among them, and are rated some of the best in the north of England. The National Trust took the place on in 2022, and there’s a café and bookshop as well. There’s an admission charge, and it’s an easy ten-minute walk from Durham station.
