Handy for the train, the Head of Steam occupies a Victorian building right by Durham’s great railway viaduct, barely a couple of minutes from the station. It’s a craft-beer pub with a wide range of cask ales and keg lines, plus food through the day. A good first or last stop if you’re arriving in the city by rail.
