Croxdale Hall has belonged to the Salvin family since the 15th century, and sits in wooded parkland just south of Durham above Croxdale Beck. Its 18th-century walled garden and lakes were laid out by the designer Lewis Kennedy, and William Salvin later filled the grounds with exotic trees bought from nurserymen in the 1790s — the arboretum still shows the results. House and gardens open by prior arrangement for group bookings between April and September.
