The Rat Inn is a much-garlanded 18th-century drovers’ inn at Anick, on the hillside above Hexham with views down to the Tyne. It’s a regular in the Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs, cooking carefully sourced local food, yet keeps the feel of a real country pub with a fire and cask ale. Hexham station is under 2km away.
