The Chequers Inn sits at Fingest, across the lane from the church with its unusual twin-gabled Norman tower. It’s a walkers’ base in the Hambleden valley, serving food, and handy for the network of paths through the surrounding beechwoods. Saunderton station is about 8km to the north-east.
