Sir Francis Dashwood — founder of the notorious Hellfire Club — laid out this Georgian pleasure ground through the 18th century, ringing a swan-shaped lake with classical temples below a Palladian house. The National Trust keeps it, but opening is limited: the grounds and house show only across a short summer season, ticketed, so check dates first. Saunderton station is about 4km north-west, and Dashwood’s caves and hilltop mausoleum sit just above the village.
