Hughenden was Benjamin Disraeli’s country retreat, home to the Victorian prime minister from 1848 until his death. The National Trust has replanted his wife Mary Anne’s formal garden of bright bedding and kept the surrounding parkland and beechwoods open for walks. House and garden are ticketed, though the parkland stays free to roam. It sits in its own valley on the edge of the Chilterns, a couple of miles north of High Wycombe.
