Fingest’s Norman church carries a rare twin-gabled saddleback tower — a double-ridged roof you won’t find on many English churches. The hamlet is tiny, just a green and the Chequers opposite, set in the beech-hung Hambleden valley. It makes a good walking base, though the nearest station, Saunderton, is a good 8km off.
