A square of brick-and-flint cottages round an old pump, Hambleden lies in a dry valley running back from the Thames below the beech hangers. It’s an estate village that has changed little, which is why film crews keep returning to it. The Stag and Huntsman has rooms if you want to stay. Henley station is about 5km south-west across the river.
