One of only a handful of English pubs left without a bar, the North Star serves its ale by jug through a stable door from the cellar into a settle-lined snug gathered round the fire. The Grade II-listed rooms are a genuine survival, the interior rated of national importance by CAMRA. It makes a fine full stop to a walk on the North Wessex Downs or the Ridgeway.
