The high western edge of the Chilterns above Dunstable, a breezy chalk viewpoint for gliders and kite flyers
Open accessin a country park open to the public
This is the highest ground in Bedfordshire, a steep chalk escarpment on the western edge of the Chilterns rather than anything you would call a mountain, topping out at 243m. The slope falls away west over the flat Vale of Aylesbury, which is what makes it such a good spot for the gliders and kite flyers you will usually find here on a fine, windy day. There is a visitor centre and open-access grassland at Dunstable Downs Country Park, and the Icknield Way Path runs along the top of the ridge. Whipsnade and its zoo are a short way south.
