A steep, rocky top on the Ben Lawers ridge, the one part of that high traverse that asks for hands as well as feet

An Stùc is a Munro — a Scottish hill over 3,000 feet (914m) — of 1,117m on the long ridge above Loch Tay, wedged between Ben Lawers, the highest of the group, and Meall Garbh to the north-east. Unlike the grassy humps around it, An Stùc has a steep, craggy north face, and the pull up or down that side is loose and steep enough to count as a scramble in places. It was only confirmed as a separate Munro in 1997, having long been treated as a shoulder of Ben Lawers. Most people cross it on the full Lawers ridge, in the Loch Rannoch and Glen Lyon hills, and that steep side is best avoided as a way down when it’s wet or icy.
