The National Memorial Arboretum is the country’s year-round centre of Remembrance, 150 acres of young woodland by the Trent at Alrewas planted with some 25,000 trees. Among them stand hundreds of memorials, from the great stone Armed Forces Memorial on its rise to small plots kept by regiments, services and charities. Entry is free, with a visitor centre and café, though there’s a charge to park. Lichfield Trent Valley station is about 6.5km to the south-west.
