Below an elegant mansion begun by William Adam and finished by his son Robert, the gardens at Mellerstain drop away in formal terraces designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield in the early 1900s — a fine piece of Edwardian garden design, with a lake and lawns beyond. The gardens open seasonally with an admission charge, near Gordon in central Berwickshire. Tweedbank station is about 13km to the west.
