Kelso spreads around one of the finest town squares in Scotland, a broad cobbled space near where the Tweed and Teviot meet. On the edge of town stands Floors Castle, built in the 1720s to William Adam’s design and still home to the Dukes of Roxburghe; the house and gardens open to visitors in season. The ruins of Kelso Abbey are a short walk from the square.
