Floors Castle, the Roxburghe seat above the Tweed at Kelso, was built by William Adam in the 1720s and later given its turrets and battlements — reckoned Scotland’s largest inhabited castle. Its walled garden is a fine Victorian kitchen garden with glasshouses and herbaceous borders, and there’s riverside parkland to stroll. Gardens open seasonally with an admission charge; the castle opens separately. Tweedbank station is about 19km to the west.
