Hardwick Park at Sedgefield is a Georgian pleasure ground brought back to life: an eighteenth-century landscape of lakes and serpentine walks, dotted with classical temples and follies, restored over recent years. It’s free and open, with a visitor centre and café by the gate, and makes an easy, level circuit of a mile or two. Best reached by car.
