The castle at Armadale is a ruin, but the gardens around it are the reason to come — 40 acres of ornamental planting and woodland in the mild south of Sleat, with ponds, terraces and views over the Sound of Sleat. The grounds hold the Clan Donald centre and the Museum of the Isles. Open daily through the season (from late March) with an admission charge; the Armadale–Mallaig ferry lands close by, near the Ardvasar Hotel.
