Greene King has brewed in the middle of Bury St Edmunds since 1799, when the 19-year-old Benjamin Greene set up here. The Victorian brewhouse still stands over the town; you can book a tour and climb to a rooftop bar above the maltings. It’s a short stroll from St Edmundsbury Cathedral and The Nutshell, reckoned one of Britain’s smallest pubs. Bury St Edmunds station is under 2km north.
