The great oval Rotunda at Ickworth was raised by the 4th Earl of Bristol to show off the art he gathered on his tours of Europe; the family later made their home in the curved East Wing. Around it lies the earliest surviving Italianate garden in England, set in parkland Capability Brown was paid to work on. National Trust, at Horringer south of Bury St Edmunds — paid entry, free to members. Bury St Edmunds station is about 6km north-east.
