Ardbeg is one of the big, heavily peated names on Islay’s south coast, with a cult following for its smoky, medicinal whisky. There’s a visitor centre and a well-liked cafe, plus tours and tastings if you book ahead. You’ll find it on the A846 a few miles east of Port Ellen, on the same road as Lagavulin and Laphroaig. Reaching Islay in the first place means the CalMac ferry from Kennacraig on the mainland.
