St Michael’s is Dumfries’s old parish church, medieval in origin though the building you see is 18th-century. Robert Burns worshipped here — his pew is marked — and he’s buried in the churchyard, moved in 1815 into the domed Grecian mausoleum that’s now its landmark. Family and friends lie around him. The churchyard is open, a short walk from the town centre.
