The Globe Inn is one of Dumfries’s great institutions, a howff (Scots for a favourite haunt) that Robert Burns adopted as his local in the 1790s, and it still trades happily on the connection. Said to date back to 1610, it’s counted among the oldest working inns in Scotland. The restaurant is worth booking, and the station is only a short walk away.
