Swimmers have been using this pool on the shore at Gourock since 1909. Heating went in in 1969, and Inverclyde Leisure, which runs the pool, calls it Scotland’s oldest heated outdoor pool. The water is Clyde seawater, filtered and kept at no less than 29°C, in a 33-metre pool with a diving board and a baby pool, and swimmers look out across the Firth of Clyde. A refurbishment in 2010–11 added new changing rooms, a gym and lift access. The season starts in May, traditionally with a big jump-in on opening day, and runs to early September. You pay on the door with no booking, except for the Starlight Swims, ticketed sessions on Wednesday nights from 10pm to midnight. Gourock station is about 400m north-east.
