Places to explore in InverclydeScotland · Central Scotland
Inverclyde is a small county where moorland hills drop steeply to the Firth of Clyde. Its towns, Greenock, Gourock and Port Glasgow, grew on shipbuilding and the deep-water anchorage, and the Lyle Hill Viewpoint still looks out over the tail of the bank where the river widens to open sea. The Renaissance-fronted Newark Castle sits on the shore at Port Glasgow, and the ornate glass-and-iron Wemyss Bay Station sends its ferries across to Bute. Behind the towns lie the reservoir and open moor of Loch Thom.
