At a gap where the Ridgeway crosses the Chilterns scarp, Wendover makes a natural walking base — the wooded hills climb straight from the town. There’s a red-brick clock tower on the high street and a run of old timbered inns below it. The station is a short walk from the centre, on the Chiltern line into London.
