Truro is Cornwall’s only city, and its cathedral gives it away from a distance — three spires by John Loughborough Pearson, built between 1880 and 1910 on the site of the old parish church, and the first English cathedral raised on a new site since Salisbury. Georgian streets and a cobbled centre gather below it. Truro Cathedral is free to enter. The station, about 1km out, is the county’s main junction.
