Best in spring, when camellias, magnolias and rhododendrons colour the woods. This is a plantsman’s garden, a long glade framed by rare shrubs, many grown from seed brought back by the great plant hunters of the early 20th century and shaped by George Johnstone over some forty years. The Georgian house behind it is still a family home. It lies between Truro and St Austell; Truro station is about 10km west.
