St Cyrus sits above a wide sweep of sand at the southern edge of the Mearns, where the national nature reserve protects a run of dunes and tall cliffs that get surprisingly rich in wildflowers and butterflies through summer. It’s a great stop for a beach-and-cliffs walk. Laurencekirk station is about 8km inland, so most visitors arrive by car.
