Southend lies near the southern tip of Kintyre, at the end of the B842. In the old Keil churchyard are two footprints carved into the rock, said to mark where St Columba first landed and preached in Scotland. Above the shore looms Dunaverty Rock, site of a ruined castle and a grim 1647 massacre. There’s an affordable 18-hole links course too. The Mull of Kintyre proper is a few miles further on.
