Paul McCartney’s 1977 Wings hit put the Mull of Kintyre on everyone’s lips, but the headland well earns the trip in its own right: the southern tip of the peninsula, its lighthouse looking across the North Channel to the Antrim coast of Ireland, only a dozen miles off. Reach it by a long single-track road beyond Southend, then a steep walk down to the light. Not one to rush, but a memorable spot.
