Portree is Skye’s capital and only real town, wrapped around a sheltered harbour where fishing boats and tour boats come and go. The row of painted houses along the quay is the island’s most photographed view. It’s the hub for just about everything — shops, buses, places to eat and sleep — and the natural base for exploring the rest of Skye.
