The sheltered harbour at the heart of Portree, Skye’s main town, ringed by a well-known row of brightly painted houses along the quay. It’s the obvious place to start or end a day on the island, with boats running fishing and wildlife trips out into the bay. Easy to reach on the A87, with the town’s shops, cafes and pubs a short walk uphill.
