Newport (Trefdraeth) sits below the Preseli Hills where the Nevern river reaches the sea, a small stone town with a Norman castle and a sandy estuary beach out at the Parrog. Behind it rises Carn Ingli, a summit crowned by an old hillfort that you can climb from the edge of town, and the Golden Road, a prehistoric ridge track across the Preselis, sets off from up here. It’s a good walkers’ base on the Coast Path, with Nevern just inland.
