St Brynach’s sits on the site of a 6th-century monastic settlement, but the thing people come for stands in the churchyard: the Nevern Cross, a Celtic high cross of braided dolerite dating from around the 10th or 11th century. An avenue of ancient yews leads to it, one of them the so-called bleeding yew that weeps a red sap. Older stones survive too, including the Vitalianus stone with its Latin and ogham lettering. Fishguard Harbour station is about 13km west.
