Hungerford is a canal town on the Kennet & Avon, with a broad high street of antiques shops and old coaching inns. Each spring it still keeps Hocktide, an ancient common-rights custom in which ‘Tutti-men’ call at the houses of the town. The towpath and Combe Gibbet up on the Downs are both within reach, and the station sits just off the high street.
