Edward Bawden and Eric Ravilious moved to Great Bardfield in the 1920s, and other artists followed, making the village a working art colony that lasted into the 1970s. It’s a conservation area of medieval and Georgian buildings strung along one long street. Their work now hangs at the Fry Art Gallery over in Saffron Walden, and Bardfield Vineyard is on the edge of the village.
