If you’ve watched kayakers bouncing down the Tay, chances are it was at Grandtully, where the river funnels into a well-known set of rapids used for whitewater racing. Just above the village, plain little St Mary’s Church hides a superb painted wooden ceiling from around 1636, crowded with biblical scenes, coats of arms and angels. Pitlochry station is about 6km north-east.
