The Pass of Killiecrankie is a steep wooded gorge where the River Garry funnels through the hills north of Pitlochry. In 1689 it was the scene of the first Jacobite battle, and the Soldier’s Leap marks the narrow point where a fleeing government soldier is said to have jumped the river to escape. A National Trust for Scotland centre explains it all, with paths down into the gorge. Free to walk; the car park charges.
