Garstang made history in April 2000 as the world’s first Fairtrade Town, a campaign that has since spread to hundreds of places. Beyond that claim to fame it’s a friendly Wyre-side market town with a weekly market going back centuries and a pretty basin on the Lancaster Canal. Salwick is the nearest station, but it’s a fair way off at about 14km, so most visitors drive.
