Falmouth sits on Carrick Roads, which together with its harbour forms the third deepest natural harbour in the world. It grew up on the packet-ship trade and still runs a busy working waterfront, with a cobbled main street of independent shops, several beaches, and Pendennis Castle guarding the point. Falmouth Town station is right in the centre, on the branch line up to Truro.
