Flushing faces Falmouth across the creek, a sheltered row of waterside houses said to have been built by Dutch engineers, which is how the village got its name. It catches the sun and stays notably mild. A seasonal passenger ferry crosses to Falmouth in a few minutes; by road it is a much longer way round the head of Mylor Creek.
