Castletown was once the centre of the Caithness flagstone trade — the grey paving stone quarried and shipped from here surfaced streets across Britain and well beyond in the 19th century. The old harbour and quarries survive, with a heritage trail to explain them. It sits just east of Thurso, near the long beach at Dunnet Bay.
