Set behind the dunes of Dunnet Bay, the Northern Sands is a family-run hotel and bar that’s known, a little unexpectedly this far north, for its Italian kitchen. A good base for the beach and Dunnet Head, the most northerly point of mainland Britain. Thurso station is about 11km west.
