Bucklers Hard is a single grass-verged street of Georgian cottages running down to the Beaulieu River, built in the 18th century as a shipbuilding village. Warships for Nelson’s navy were launched here, including his favourite, HMS Agamemnon, in 1781. There’s a maritime museum, and a riverside path walks up to Beaulieu. The old shipwright’s inn is now the Master Builder’s House hotel and pub. Beaulieu Road station is about 8km to the north-west.
